About Random Bible
Random Bible is a calm, free way to find a verse when you need one — a random verse generator, hand-picked topical collections, full chapters with plain-English explanations, free wallpapers, and a widget for church websites. There is also a free Chrome extension that puts a fresh verse on every new tab.
Where the verses come from
Every verse on this site is real translated scripture, never machine-generated and never paraphrased. The text comes from three public-domain English translations, filtered to the 66-book Protestant canon and checked against the source texts rather than taken on trust.

All three are in the public domain, which is what makes it possible to publish them here, put them on a downloadable wallpaper, and let you reuse them without asking. You can read the source texts independently — the King James Version and the American Standard Version are both available in full at Project Gutenberg and the World English Bible is published by eBible.org. The King James text used here is the 1769 Blayney revision, which is what nearly every modern KJV edition reproduces.
How the collections are chosen
Topic collections are not put together automatically. Each one is read and chosen by hand, in an order that builds rather than repeats, with a short FAQ and related topics to browse next. The wallpapers work the same way: every verse has its own page, with something written about what the verse actually means.
The generator deliberately does not draw from all 31,102 verses in the Bible. A truly uniform draw returns genealogies and building measurements most of the time. It draws from the chosen verses instead, so whatever comes up is something worth reading.
How this site is funded
Random Bible is a personal project, free to use, with no paid plan and no account. Display advertising may appear on some pages in future; if it does, nothing described on this page moves behind it. There are no affiliate links, and nothing on the site is sponsored.
Privacy
There is no account and no sign-up, so there is nothing to collect. Analytics are cookieless and aggregate only, which is why you have never seen a cookie banner here — see the privacy page for the detail.
